Jinghong, Dai language, means the “City of Dawn” and is the capital of Xishuangbanna and situated in a rich basin on the west bank of the Mekong (Lancang) River, near the borders with Myanmar. Jinghong city has many natural sceneries and national customs, which can be used as a starting point for understanding Xishuangbanna.
Wild Elephant Valley is located 36 kilometers north of Jinghong and covers an area of 369 hectares. It has dense forests, and Asian wild elephants, green peacocks, black bears, and other amphibians inhabit here.
The Tropical Botanical Garden has preserved tens of thousands of tropical plants from all over the world, and a large area of tropical rain forests.
Lancang（Mekong) River Cruises, a round trip from Jinghong Port, is a good choice to enjoy the night view of Jinghong City.
Nannuo Mountain and Jingmai Mountain are very famous tea producing regions with a large area of tea gardens and a large number of ancient tea trees. Besides, some characteristic villages of local ethnic minorities are also hidden among them.
The Manting Garden formerly known as the local King’s Royal Garden has a history of more than 1,300 years (the Buddha Temple inside it is an ancient temple famous in Southeast Asia).
