LUOPING, CANOLA FLOWER OCEAN IN YUNNAN

Tour Highlights:
Luoping, on the border of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi three provinces, is 228 kilometers east of Kunming. The enormous scale of Canola fields in Luoping county is undoubtedly the most uniquely artificial “ocean” in the world. During the blooming season, usually in February and March, the sea of canola flowers of Luoping would provide visitors with a strong visual impact.
As a pleasantly inhabited region, the Buyi people are the major of Luoping. To visit the villages, Jiulong waterfall, Duoyi River, and Lubuge Valley is the best way to know the Buyi group.
- Drive to Luoping (3hrs).
- On the road, visit the Naigu Stone Forest.
- After arrival, visit the canola flower fields of Luositian.
- Get up early in the morning to see the sunrise at the Jinji (Golden Rooster) Hills.
- You can enjoy a walk among the canola flowers, as well as magnificent views of the hill peaks. Luoping is a karst region, and the small limestone hills are scattered all over, and the Jinji hills are the most famous.
- Explore the Jiulong (Nine Dragons) Waterfall. The waterfall consists of 9 rows of water. The flows converge on a valley and form magnificent scenery.
- In the afternoon, drive to Puzhehei (4hrs).
- On arrival, free stroll along the lakes.
- Visit the Qinglong (Green Dragon) Hill. Spend about forty minutes climbing to the top of the hill to enjoy the splendid view of the hills and lakes of the Puzhehei valley. Then about thirty minutes to walk down.
- Boat trip (1h30) on the lakes through the rice fields and villages of the Yi minority.
- This afternoon returns to Kunming by car(4h30/5hrs) or by high-speed train(1h30).
- Optional tour 1: In the evening, you will enjoy the wonderful performance of the minorities of Yunnan entitled “Dynamic Yunnan” (20:00 to 21:30).
- Optional tour 2: After exploring the Puzhehei region, you can continue your journey to the rice terraces of Yuanyang and the historic town of Jianshui.

- Jianshui and Yuanyang (+ 3~4 days): With 150,000 hectares, the rice terraces of Yuanyang were classified as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2013 and consider to be the largest and most beautiful one in Asia. They are also home to the Hani, Yi, Dai, and other ethnic minorities, and those groups still retain their traditional customs and habits. Jianshui, a former stopover on the Southern Silk Road, is also known as a Confucian pilgrimage center. Every September, the locals worship Confucius in the temple dedicated to him, the second largest in China. The local culinary specialties such as Jianshui roast tofu are famous in Yunnan.
When to go?
The best season to do this tour is spring (between mid-February and early March) when the huge expanse of canola fields is in bloom. The region constitutes one of the most extraordinary seas of flowers in the world.
