Longji Rice Terraces

Longji Terraced Fields, also called Longsheng Terraced Fields, are located in the north of Guilin City about two and a half-hour drive. The Longji Terraced Fields are masterpieces to conquer the natural environment by the Yao and the Zhuang over 2000 years.

Terraces cover an area of 66 square kilometers and span an altitude of 300 meters to 1,100 meters. Longji Terraced Fields contain Ping’ an terraces and Jinkeng terraces. Between them, there are hiking trails, and you can traverse rice fields and the countryside to enjoy beautiful panoramic views. If you are lucky, you may have the opportunity to meet some owners of the rice fields.

Being the first rice terrace area in Longji to be developed for tourism, Ping’ an Zhuang Village Terraced Fields is well-equipped with modern facilities and more convenient. The terraced fields are around Ping’ an Village and two smaller hamlets, inhabited by the Zhuang minority, and the villagers live in traditional wooden three-story stilted houses.

Farther from the tourist entrance than the Ping’ an Terraced Fields, the Jinkeng Terraced Fields are inside the Dazhai Village, surrounded by mountains and known for their rich mineral resources of gold. Visitors should not miss its three famous scenic spots: West Hill Music, Large-scale Thousand-Layer Terraces, and Golden Buddha Summit.

In addition to the spectacular terraced landscape, you will also get a wonderful glimpse into the mysterious ethnic minority culture of Zhuang and Yao.
